“The Wonder City” is one of many nicknames bestowed upon New York City over the years. The first example of its use (that I can find, at least) comes from the title page of a 1918 book of photos. Check it out here! (sidenote: the internet is amazing.) To me, the name perfectly encapsulates the magic of NYC.
I am a writer, editor, researcher and New York enthusiast. I’ve lived here for 12 years and use my free time to explore both familiar and far-flung corners. I am also obsessed with contemplating how quickly people from ancient times would acclimate to various aspects of modern life if brought here via time machine. You know, the important things.
